Domestic & commercial
Window & door repairs
Misted units, broken locks, failed seals or doors that won't close – send us a photo and we'll tell you what it needs.
Repairs & maintenance
Fix it first. Replace only if you need to.
Not every problem needs a new window or door. Many faults – misted glass, a dropped door, a stiff lock, a draught – can be put right quickly and for a fraction of the cost of replacement. Defined Living offers a repair and maintenance service for aluminium, uPVC and timber windows and doors across Hertfordshire and North London.
Send us your details and a photo or short video of the problem. We'll assess it, tell you honestly whether it's worth repairing, and arrange a visit at a time that suits you.
What we repair
Common problems, properly fixed
Misted & failed units
Condensation between the panes means the sealed unit has failed. We replace the glass unit, not the whole window.
Hinges, handles & locks
Dropped sashes, stiff handles, snapped keys and failed multi-point locks – repaired or replaced with matching hardware.
Seals & draughts
Perished gaskets and weather seals let in draughts and water. Replaced to restore a tight, quiet seal.
Glass replacement
Cracked, broken or scratched glazing replaced, including toughened, laminated and obscure glass.
Sliding & bi-fold doors
Worn rollers, misaligned tracks and doors that catch or won’t lock – realigned and running smoothly again.
Roller shutters & commercial glazing
Shopfronts, shutters, curtain walling and atrium glazing repaired and maintained with minimal disruption.
Domestic
Homes
From a single misted pane to a full service of every window in the house. Tidy, respectful engineers, clear pricing before any work begins, and repairs that are guaranteed.
Commercial
Business & property managers
Reactive repairs and planned maintenance for offices, retail, schools and managed residential blocks. Out-of-hours attendance, roller shutters and shopfront glazing covered.

Most repairs are completed in a single visit, with parts matched to your existing hardware.
Before you ask
Repair questions, answered
Can misted or cloudy double glazing be repaired?
Yes. Condensation or misting between the panes means the sealed unit has failed – but the frame is almost always fine. We replace just the glass unit, made to measure, rather than the whole window. It restores the clear view and insulation at a fraction of the cost of a new window.
Why won't my bifold or sliding door close or lock properly?
Usually one of three things: the door has dropped on its hinges or rollers, the track is dirty or worn, or the multi-point lock gearbox has failed. All three are repairable – realignment, new rollers or replacement gearbox – and a short video of the door being operated usually tells us which before we visit.
How much does a window or door repair cost?
It depends on the fault, which is exactly why we ask for photos first: we assess what you send, tell you roughly what it will cost, and then confirm a fixed price at the visit before any work starts. Repairs almost always come in at a fraction of replacement – and if a repair isn't worth doing, we'll tell you straight.
Do you repair any brand of window or door?
Yes – we repair aluminium, uPVC and timber windows and doors from any manufacturer, not just products we supply. Hardware such as hinges, handles, locks and rollers is matched to your existing system or replaced with a compatible equivalent.
Is it worth repairing, or should I just replace?
Most faults – misted units, dropped doors, stiff locks, draughts – are genuinely worth repairing. Replacement makes more sense when frames themselves have failed or when you're changing the style or size of the opening. We give an honest assessment either way; repairs are a service we run on reputation, not a route to selling you new windows.
Which areas does your repair service cover?
We repair windows and doors across Hertfordshire and North London – including St Albans, Watford, Hertford, Ware and surrounding towns – for both homes and commercial properties.
